O’Neill Brothers’ Album Blends Music from Different Faiths

NEW PRAGUE, MN (June 10, 2000) — One, the latest album by pianists Tim and Ryan O‘Neill, represents a somewhat new direction for the brothers, with its reflective look at how the power of music connects our many different faiths and beliefs. The album is a unique recording that blends recognizable music from a number of different religions, in the traditional, gentle O’Neill piano style.

For One, the O’Neill Brothers’ goal was to bring together traditional music from a wide variety of religions and incorporate it into a single album. Their hope was that people who may already be familiar with some of the music would discover and enjoy music from other faiths.

To find the songs, Tim and Ryan asked people from different faiths to pick several songs that are important to them. The brothers chose as many as possible from the list and then brought in different musicians to help them bring the songs to life. The music is still primarily solo piano, but there are strings, bagpipes and other little touches that make the songs extra special.

“One is somewhat of a change in direction for us, but the results are amazing,” Ryan said. “Tim and I worked hard to be as inclusive as possible with the musical selections. At one point we realized we had almost two hours of music and had to make a few tough choices as to which would stay on the album. We discovered so much music that we’re already looking at recording another collection.”

The O’Neill Brothers have turned a passion for music into a thriving business, selling more than 350,000 CDs nationwide, all without benefit of association with a major record label. Their enthusiastic fans have made successes of the O’Neill Brothers’ 10 albums, including Spirit of the Season Volumes I and II, featuring traditional and new holiday classics; The Meeting of the Waters, a collection of traditional Irish instrumental songs recorded during a three-month trip to the Emerald Isle; Love Always and P.S., I Love You, classic (and a few original) love songs; Look Within; Hands of Time; and their newest albums, Coming Home, One and Sweet Dreams.
